Planning and organizing
- Establishing a course of action for self and or others to accomplish a specific goal; planning proper assignments of personnel and appropriate allocation of resources.
- (Many positions require people who can plan and organize for themselves and others. This includes establishing goals, budgeting time, setting priorities, allocating proper amounts of time to activities, and maintaining an awareness of interrelationships between activities. Other jobs require an ability to establish goals, to identify activities to be accomplished to achieve goals, establish priority and time sequences of activities, and provide necessary time and resources.)
Delegation
- Utilizing subordinates effectively. Allocating decision making and other responsibilities to the appropriate subordinates.
- (Many supervisory positions require that supervisors allocate work to their subordinates. What is delegated (responsibility, authority, or data gathering); how it is delegated (clarity of the delegations, information, resources suggested); and the target of delegation (if it is to the most appropriate person) are all important factors to be considered in making these assignments.)
Control
- Establishing procedures to monitor and or regulate processes, tasks, or activities of subordinates and job activities and responsibilities. Taking action to monitor the results of delegated assignments or projects.
- (Some positions require individuals who see the need for an take action to establish control measures or methods for the accomplishment of work tasks an activities. Monitoring or regulating devices include observation, provision for feedback, and the establishment of control systems. The scope of this dimension is broader than delegation in the control applies to activities beyond those of subordinates.)
Development of subordinates
- Developing the skills and competencies of subordinates through training and development activities related to current and future jobs.
- (Many positions require individuals who care about increasing the effectiveness of subordinates and who are able to identify appropriate developmental needs, to design or locate appropriate developmental situations, and to motivate subordinates to develop themselves.)
